Young India Scholars

From Curiosity to Scholarship

An advanced research and mentorship experience for students who want to investigate India's intellectual heritage—and use it as a starting point for new ideas.

Program for High School students

What if learning didn't end with an answer?

A Scholar begins with a question.

  • Why did an idea emerge?
  • How did someone arrive at it?
  • What evidence supports it?
  • How did knowledge travel across languages and generations?
  • What can we learn from it today?
  • What new questions does it raise?

Young India Scholars gives students the time, mentorship, and intellectual freedom to pursue those questions.

This is not simply a program in Indian history.

It is an opportunity to develop the habits of a researcher, thinker, communicator, and lifelong learner.

The Scholar's Research Project

Every Young India Scholar works toward a substantive project.

Mentorship Matters

Research can feel very different when a student has someone experienced standing on their side.

Primary Sources. Real Questions.

Whenever appropriate, students are encouraged to engage directly with historical and scholarly materials.

Who is a Young India Scholar?

Young India Scholars may be students who:

  • Love asking difficult questions
  • Enjoy mathematics, science, technology, language, or history
  • Like going deeper than the classroom curriculum
  • Are curious about how ideas developed
  • Enjoy independent projects
  • Want to work with a mentor
  • Are willing to read, investigate, revise, and communicate
  • Want to connect seemingly unrelated fields

You do not need to already be an expert.

What matters most is curiosity, commitment, and the willingness to investigate.
